Vapor Trail

A year earlier an unidentified irate citizen pumped 12 rounds
into a known pedophile that had escaped conviction, and thus
came to be called "the Saint." The case was never
solved because it lacked serious investigationboth cops
and citizens felt that justice had been served. Besides, the
cops had no incentive to investigate; they believed a fellow
officer was the guilty party.
Now,
a priest once accused of pedophilia is found murdered, and investigator
Phil Broker has been deputized by the Washington County sheriff
to investigate the crime. But first, Broker must get an out-of-control
cop, a former partner and former friend, under control and checked
into rehab. While Broker pursues the elusive cop, another suspected
pedophile is gunned down. Has the Saint returned? Mounting evidence
supports the theory that a member of the Stillwater Police Department
is the mysterious vigilante.
As
the cops close in, the killer claims another life before slipping
through the ever-tightening net. But the vigilante's next target
makes it an intensely personal issue for Broker, and he puts
himself in the line of fire to save the intended victim and
reveal the identity of the killer in their midst.
