Chasing Destiny

by Eric Jerome Dickey

She's beautiful, she's talented, she's tough . . . and she's pregnant. Billie, also known as "Ducati" among fellow bikers, rides a tricked-out, yellow Ducati motorcycle and wears bright yellow motorcycle leathers to match.

Billie wants love and stability in her life, and she's convinced that her current boyfriend (and father of her unborn child), Keith, can provide them. But Keith has "issues" that keep him tied to Carmen, his manipulative soon-to-be ex-wife. He's unemployed, and about to begin paying court-ordered child support. He can't afford to continue living apart from the wife he can't seem to get along with.

Complicating matters further is Keith's 15-year old daughter, Destiny, who has already started to walk on the wild side. While staying with her grandparents, Destiny disappears, triggering a cascading chain of events that threaten to turn everyone's life upside down.

Billie's roommate's sister is brutally beaten, others are assaulted, and Billie herself is intentionally run down and nearly killed by a hit-and-run driver. At the epicenter of events is a violent teenager bent on revenge, and lurking on the periphery the handsome, charming Raheem, who is either Billie's genuine admirer or her determined stalker.

As the plot of Dickey's brilliant new novel, Chasing Destiny, plays out, revealing hidden connections amid the fragile, tenuous threads of human relationships, the author amply demonstrates that even in the darkest of times, there is still reason to hope.

Eric Jerome Dickey's writing is compelling, gritty, sexy and intelligent, and it paints a chillingly accurate portrait of what it means to be a person of color in contemporary America.

Originally from Memphis, Eric Jerome Dickey is a full-time writer now residing in Southern California. The New York Times' best-selling author has written 12 novels, among them Genevieve and Thieves' Paradise.
